Match report London Maccabi Vale appear to be in fine fettle ahead of the upcoming cricket campaign, as they rounded off their pre-season preparations with a comfortable eight wicket victory over Spartan CC.

After a remarkable five consecutive promotions, Vale are faced this year with the challenge of competing in Division One of the Chess Valley League - and they look as prepared as ever.

In glorious Bank Holiday sunshine, they cruised to success at home to Spartan CC. Adam Brand struck a majestic unbeaten half century to showcase his enduring class once more, with an outrageous switch hit for six closing out the win. At the other end, Saul Antsey completed a superb debut for the club, with the South African powering his way to 33 not out to add to his earlier two wickets.

In the early part of the day, successes were shared around the bowling group. Fifteen-year-old Rayno Greenwall Cohen, tipped to be the breakthrough star of the season, bowled with pace and control, while Jonny Gould picked up two crucial wickets and claimed a brace of excellent catches in the deep. Another debutant, Joe Davidson, made a strong initial impression, taking three wickets for just ten runs in his first senior appearance.

It was a dominant performance from Vale, who have strengthened well over the winter and are all set for a thrilling campaign. First up in the league on Sunday is Brondesbury.
