Botany Bay v London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 21 Aug 2011 at 14.00
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won by 122 runs
Match report
LMV 1st XI 206-7 (40 overs) beat Botany Bay 84 all out by 122 runs
What a pleasure to play a match on a beautiful sunny afternoon, after what seems like months of wet and windy Sundays. It turned out to be a Sunday made for Jonathans' as firstly Jonathan Cantor and Jonathan Galloway with the bat and then Jonathan Freedman, Benjamin Lederman (son of Jonathan) and Jonathan Lederman with the ball contributed in the main to an excellent win.
Jonathan Cantor opened the batting with Mark 'Teffers' Spanjar and was soon into his stride with his customary angling of the ball on both sides of the wicket. He soon lost Mark and then David Freeedman, but a rapid stand of 50 with Jacob Freedman (11) accelerated the scoring. JC was then joined by Jon Galloway and these 2 batted excellently putting on 71 together, but when JC departed for a terrific 73, Galloway upped the scoring rate and had reached 62 before being caught. It was left to captain Saul Weitzman and Avi Schwartz to scamper a few extra runs in the final few balls to take LMV to 06 after 40 overs.
Staggering out to field after a huge tea, LMV took a firm hold of the match as both Jonathan Freedman (3-18) and Benjamin Lederman (2-20) made early inroads into the Botany Bay batting. With Jonathan Lederman taking over at the top end from his son, there was no respite as he bowled a spell of 3-22 in 7.1 overs. Avi came on to replace Freedman and also took a wicket in a spell of 1-24. So the Botany Bay innings was all over in 26.1 overs leaving a comprehensive win for LMV.
Both teams now have league matches on the next 2 Sundays and will need to show the same positive attitude as in this match to ensure a good end to their respective league campaigns.
