Stanmore CC v London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 10 Jul 2016 at 13:00
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won by 159 runs
Match report
Steven Allweis produced an outstanding spell of bowling to record London Maccabi Vale's best-ever figures in the Chess Valley League and power the team to victory.
Allweis finished with 7-18 off 10 overs to demolish Stanmore's batsmen and write his name in the record books.
The left-armer finished last season as the league's leading wicket-taker and following Vale's promotion looks on course to repeat that achievement this time around.
His efforts helped to dismiss Stanmore for just 63, with Joseph Greenwall-Cohen chipping in with one wicket and Jack Davis closing out the innings with the final two.
Earlier in the day, LMV had posted 222-5 from their allotted 45 overs. Greenwall-Cohen made a classy 37 before being run out, while Danny Caro saw off the threat of the opening bowlers only to feel the effects of a chest infection and retire ill.
Ben Kohler strode to the crease and proceeded to lay waste to the opposition bowlers, striking a decisive 78 with classy shots all round the ground before falling in the final overs.
Alongside Kohler, Adam Spooner added 54 in measured fashion to guide LMV towards their unassailable total, and then it was the Allweis show as Vale romped home by 159 runs.
LMV captain Neil Lederman told JC Sport: "Steven made use of the conditions perfectly, with good aggressive swing bowling and he was unplayable at times.
"We've now won two on the bounce after a disappointing defeat in the first league match of the season. We've shown great depth in batting without three of our normal top five available.
"The partnership between Kohler and Spooner was vital and showed that we're much less reliant on two or three players to score 200 between them every week than we were a couple seasons ago."
