London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 1st XI v Ealing Hanwellonians CC on Sun 23 Aug 2015 at 1pm
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Lost by 2 runs

Match report LMV slipped to a second consecutive defeat in a rain shortened match at Rowley Lane against Ealing Hanwellians. Captain Neil Lederman opted to bowl first on winning the toss in a game reduced to 35 overs per side. His decision was validated as Steve Allweis bowled opener Virk round his legs for 0. Sharma and Singh looked to be aggressive, though Singh holed out off Neil Lederman to Mark Landau on the long on boundary for 17. Sharma and Jagota made good, if steady progress before Jagota picked out Adam Brand at midwicket off the leg spin of Adam Spooner. Arora followed shortly afterwards, cutting the same bowler to Adam Solomons at point. Mark Landau then picked up 2 wickets in his sole over, with Spooner holding on to two excellent catches. An innings that had stalled somewhat was ignited in the 33rd over, where Allweis was taken for 24 by Hussain. He and Lederman picked up one more wicket apiece, as Ealing Hanwellians closed on 153 in the final over.

Mark Landau and Adam Spooner began well in reply, taking the score to 24 before Landau was bowled off an inside edge by Hussain. All of Vale's top 6 got into double figures but no one could go to make a telling contribution. Spooner's was the second wicket to fall with the score on 60, making 11 before he was bowled by Martin. Adam Solomons made 12 before he was caught off the bowling of Jagota top edging a pull. Alex Haffner and Adam Brand took Vale to 100 with 10 overs to go, but Brand nicked behind off the returning Hussain in the gathering gloom for a patient 32. Haffner and Lederman, so often the finishers this season were unable to repeat the trick, making 26 and 24 respectively. Lederman went first, bowled by Virk, and Haffner fell in identical fashion, though not before Craig Waterman had been run out looking for a second run. Allweis struck a boundary and with one over left and 4 runs needed it looked like Vale could well pull off the victory. It wasn't to be, with Allweis clean bowled, and Jon Daniels unable to score the requisite runs, with Avi Schwarz run out as the batsmen tried to get what they could from the final ball. A two run defeat that is bitterly disappointing for Vale, and leaves them reliant on other results to determine whether they can be promoted from Division 4 of the Chess Valley League.
