IT'S A WRAP: A SEASON TO BE REMEMBERED

17 Sep 2020

So, having thought we would get no cricket this summer when Boris decided that a cricket ball was a "vector" for Covid-19, the Vale CC 2020 cricket season finished on Sunday with a 6-a-side 'Club Day' tournament played in glorious sunshine at Southgate CC with members aged from 12-the wrong side of 50 taking part. Neil Lederman did a great job devising the rules/balancing the teams (notwithstanding a few Jewish arguments along the way).

From early-June onwards, we have had 2 X1s playing every week, over 20 Colts matches and nearly 100 playing members sign up (plus weekly Colts and Seniors training sessions); not bad from a standing start!

The Club Day was particularly memorable for Anthony (Tony Wise) who managed to kick a ball hit in his direction past the boundary onto his cheek, so temporarily halting his modelling career, but then later in the afternoon being presented with a gift of vouchers paid for by generous donations from Colts parents in recognition of all his efforts this summer.  Better still, he was also appointed an Honorary Vice President of the club - a very fitting reward.

As well as Tony, several others have gone above and beyond to make things happen and deserve special mention including Steven Alweiss (1sts captain), Gideon Gale and Jon Feigenbaum (2nd team captain/organisers), Richard Fraser and Danny Caro (Colts Managers), Ben Lederman (Colts Coach and 1st team VC), Russ Corin (Fixtures), and Jonathan Freedman (Welfare).

Last but certainly not least, massive thanks are due to the 'Silver Fox' Terry Hyman, our Hon President and Treasurer and without whom LMVCC simply wouldn't function.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Adam Brand and Rafi Saville on their appointment as convenors of the GB Maccabiah cricket teams for the next Maccabiah Games, now scheduled for 2022.

Plenty to build on and we are looking forward to continuing the grow the club into 2021, hopefully in a less Covid-restricted environment.

Shana Tova and best regards,

Alex Haffner
Club Chairman
