London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 1st XI v Bharat Olympians on Sun 20 Jun 2010 at 13.30
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets (with 2 balls to spare)

Match report A match that seemed lost after our first 3 overs of bowling and our first 3 overs of batting was won thanks to a sensational performance from the lower order notably by Jerome Roith and Paul Buxton... who together with Dan Cohen and Saul Weitzman performed heroics to turn a score of 34 for 5 into a matchwinning 185 for 8! Who would have believed that we could have turned this around - well the cool heads of messrs buxton and roith!

The day started poorly with us sending down 12 wides in our first 3 overs... and this trend continued throughout the innings. The opposition were aided by 24 wides during their innings! The star performer with the ball was Saul weitzman who was unlucky to only finish with 2 wickets as he swung the new ball to good effect and went for 25 in his 8 overs.. The other wickets wer shared around with Dan cohen and Joseph greenwall cohen(in his first vale appearance of the season) picking up 2 wickets apiece...

A marvellous tea and some enjoyment watching NZ draw with Italy soon turned to horror as the opening bowlers of Bharat olympians proved to be more than a match for our top order. Black,Brand(first ball),becker, caro, Greenwall cohen all headed back to the pavillion without troubling the scorebook to any great effect. Cue the level headed experience of Martin Shultz (wearing his well aged cricket kit) who together with Bucky added 34 to at least give the score a bit of respectibility.. When he departed for a well made 21 again we feared the worst. However, Bucky and jerome had other ideas... they ran superbly between the wickets and both hit tremendous sixes which was batting unseen by most of us before! They added 40 in 10 overs. When Bucky departed we still assumed the game was lost as we required 77 off 9 overs with only 3 wickets(well Bunnies!!) left to come in... Saul and jerome added 40 in 5 overs - Game on!!! The opposition brought back their star bowler who had figures of 6 overs 3-19.. Could we keep him out and score at the other end... ? Saul got run out but herome found an ally in Dan (hit it straight and let the opposition drop you 3 times) cohen... They hit 2's and in the peultimate over jerome hit 2 boundaries.. A fantastic knock which left us needing only 5 off the last over. The boys completed this task with 2 balls to spare - I half expected jerome to celebrate a la Mark ramprakash with shirt off running round the ground - He has too much of a cool head for that!!

Well done everyone - still cant get over the excitement and the unbelievbale tension !! The happiest man on the ground i think was a rather nervy Ryan who waited patiently away from the rest of us on the boundary edge hoping he wouldnt be called upon to have to score 1 off the last ball! Brando's MOM - Jerome Roith !
