London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 2nd XI v Chigwell on Sun 27 Jun 2010 at 10.30
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won By 9 wickets in 15.5 overs
Match report
Quarter Final of The Maccabi National Knockout 40 over competition.
Chigwell 147 all out (38.3 overs)
LMV 148-1 (15.5 overs)
Chigwell won the toss and decided to bat in beautiful sunny conditions at Rowley Lane. Simon Renshaw continued his excellent form with an early wicket, which was soon followed up at the other end as Jonathan "The Vet" Lederman held onto an excellent catch in the slips off Adam Morris's bowling (1-20 from 6 overs). Andrew Greenwall Cohen took over from Morris and produced another brilliant display of miserly bowling, take 1-9 from his 8 overs. At the other end Jonathan Freedman was unable to continue his wicket taking form (0-19 from 4 overs) and Benjamin Lederman came on and took 2-47, conceding runs when the field was up trying to get wickets.
"The vet" replaced AGC and took 2-19 and with Simon Renshaw (4-23) coming back on and finishing things off thanks to a catch in the covers by Avi (thus avoiding the TFC award), Chigwell had been bowled out for just 147 in 38.3 overs.
A quick change round and David Freedman and Benjamin Lederman were off to chase down the total. Despite a long lecture from "The vet", David Freedman was looking to finish the match in time to have a leisurely bath before the football, but after reaching 22 (5 x4) he was bowled by a gozunder. This brought Alex Haffner in, and he and Ben were soon in full flow, hitting the ball all round the ground and Alex even managing to get Ben to run a three! Scoring at over 10 an over it soon became apparent that we would all have time for a leisurely bath (not together I hasten to add) before the big match (not).
Alex reached his fifty in the 16th over which also included reaching the winning total. Alex was unbeaten on 56 (9x4) with Ben still there on 45 (5x4). They had put on 101 together in a little under 11 overs.
A comfortable win, but greater challenges ahead as we will be playing MAL in the semi-final on August 8th.
Dan Caplan won the TFC award.
Captain's Man of the Match award, jointly to Simon Renshaw and Alex Haffner.
