London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 2nd XI v Harrow St Marys on Sun 13 Jun 2010 at 13:30
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Lost Lost by 71 runs
Match report
Harrow St Marys 251 All Out beat LMV 180-9 by 71 runs
Played on the main square at Southgate Cricket Club.
LMV were weakened with both Jeremy Harris & Nigel Rothband having to pull out for personal reasons on Sunday morning, so Jacob Freedman (4 Freedmans' in the team!!!) and Alex Nyman were brought in.
Winning the toss Leders decided to bowl first on a cloudy afternoon. Jonathan Freedman soon got into the act with a fabulous caught and bowled, but neither he nor Leders could find the right line. Freedman switched ends and Simon Renshaw also came on to bowl, but nothing stopped the HSM batsmen as they hit both good and bad balls alike all round the ground.
Soon the "Spin Twins" of Permutt and Alex Nyman were brought on to bowl. Alex had immediate success having been smashed for a couple of huge hits he bowled a great yorker to completely deceive the HSM batter. However the bowling continued to be indifferent and hit around. Although Alex and Simon Renshaw took a couple more wickets each, the damage had been done and a final score of 251 would have been a challenge even with the original batting line up. Only Jonathan Freedman emerged with credit with figures of 1-32 from 7.1 overs.
Unfortunately 2 early wickets "Father & Son" opening partnership Jacob and David Freedman both departing within the first 10 overs to excellent deliveries, set the tone for the innings. With the returning Alex Haffner (21) and Scott Gerard also not lasting long it was left to Trevor Woolf (29) and Leders (38*)to try and salvage some respectability, but when Woolf was out LBW, the last real partnership was broken.
A cameo from Nyman entertained for a while, but the run rate was in double figures as the last 10 overs approached and with wickets falling at regular intervals there was no real chance of making a charge towards 251.
The final scores of both teams was a fair reflection on the gulf between the teams in all three aspects of the game. Disappointing that after a good win last week we were unable to follow it up with another good performance. The difficulties of trying to have consistency in a team when there are 8 changes from one week to another should not be underestimated.
