London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won By 49 runs

Match report LMV 2nd XI 216-8 (40 overs) beat Olympians 168 all out

After a slightly belated start due to the late arrival of the opposition LMV 2nd XI were asked to bat first on a very dry Rowley Lane wicket.

David Freedman and Benjamin Lederman opened the innings together for the 2nd week in a row, a rare thing for the 2's. Unfortunately Big Dave didn't last long as he was bowled in the 2nd over. Jeff Permutt came in at #3, and he and Ben played carefully against accurate bowling. A change of bowling allowed for a little more expansive play and by the drinks break after 20 overs they had taken the score to 93, with Ben starting to find his range with some powerful drives especially through the off side.

In trying to accelerate the scoring Ben was run out for 40 (6x4) ending a partnership of 98 with Jeff. This brought in captain Jonathan Lederman, who was soon into his stride with some aggressive batting. Jeff (5x4) continued scoring well, mainly in 1's and 2's and reached an excellent 50 in the 34th over, unfortunately he was then caught straight after reaching 50, ending a stand of 61 with the captain. Andrew Greenwall Cohen came in, but Leders (44, 7x4) perished almost immediately in trying to accelerate the scoring in the last few overs. AGC hit an enormous 6 over square leg before also being caught. A couple more wickets were lost in the final overs as we reached a slightly disappointing 216 from 40 overs.

After another excellent tea, Simon Renshaw (5 overs 1-13)and Josh Lew (5 overs 1-35) opened the bowling with mixed results as Olympians set of positively. However after the initial surge and with more defensive field placings in place the scoring rate came down. AGC came on and bowled his customary accurate spell (3-14 from 5 overs). Ali Livingston was struggling to repeat his success at the other end (5 overs 1-39.)At the halfway stage Olympians had reached 112-6, ahead of the run rate but with only 4 wickets left.

Saul Freedman (5 overs 1-27) took over from AGC as he and Alex Nyman (5 overs 0-27) bowled the next 10 overs very tidily, but the score had progressed to 167-7, 52 required in 10 overs, certainly very achievable. However in the end the innings was to last only three more legitimate deliveries. Benjamin Lederman came on and having been "wided" first ball saw the next delivery brilliantly caught by Aryeh Myers down the leg side off the full face of the bat. Next ball a full toss was pushed straight into Jeff Permutt's midriff. With all fielders round the ball, Ben charged in looking for his first hat trick for the club. No one else was required though, as a superb out swinger was all that was required, cartwheeling the middle stump out of the ground and breaking it in the process! HAT TRICK!!!

Well done Benjamin and an excellent end to a very enjoyable match (who said you can't have excellent "friendlies" anymore.
