London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club U15s v Old Elizabethans on Mon 14 Jun 2010 at 18:00
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won By 10 Wickets
Match report
LMV Colts ended their 3 match losing streak in fantastic style at Rowley Lane, with an unbelievable 10 wicket win over Old Elizabethans.
Winning the toss captain Benjamin Lederman asked OE's to bat first. Despite an excellent spell from Jamie Leboff (1-13 from 4 overs) runs were being scored quickly right from the off, not helped by one "No Show" and some extremely poor fielding. 63 runs were scored from the first 10 overs.
Runs continued at a high rate into the 2nd half of the innings, although a great captain's bowling performance by Leders (3-12 from 4 overs), helped to ensure that only 15 runs came from the last 5 overs, otherwise OE's final total of 130 could have been many more.
Mark Spanjar and Leders opened the batting, straight from the start they manipulated the ball round the field rotating the strike all the time. However the run rate dropped a bit as OE's captain, an excellent spinner, kept things tight for a while. At the halfway stage LMV were 49-0, needing another 82 to win.
Both batsman realised that time for aggression had arrived. Spanjar who had been trying hard but unable to time anything, and was continually berating himself for not hitting the ball cleanly, suddenly woke up and with a flurry of boundaries the charge was on. 14 off the 14th over including an enormous 6 from Spanjar, who was now hitting everything out of the middle of the bat, 10 from the 15th and 12 from the 16th put the ball squarely in LMV's court. When the 17th over produced 13 runs, including two belting off side shots from Leders, the job was nearly done.
With 12 required off three overs, 6 off each of the following 2 overs were scored as the boys knew that the game plan had now changed. This meant only a single was required from the last over, which was duly achieved off the second ball.
An excellent win and a fantastic unbroken partnership of 131 between Mark Spanjar (63* 6 x4, 1 x6) and Benjamin Lederman (44* 6 x4). Just a shame no LMV supporters there to watch it!
Many thanks to Howard for scoring duties (I could even read the scorebook)
