Southgate Compton v London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club U15s on Tue 29 Jun 2010 at 18:00
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won By 6 wickets with 8 balls remaining

Match report Southgate Compton 108-6 (20 overs)
LMV 109-4 (18.4 overs)

What appears on paper a fairly comfortable win was in fact anything but that, as LMV played the match with only 9 men and one of those injured himself and was barely able to field and could not bat.

Winning the toss LMV fielded first with Adam Morris and Gideon Gale opening the bowling. Morris settled into a good rhythm and beat the bat on several occasions. SC's quality opening bat was soon into his stride though and the score progressed quickly. Morris was replaced by Dan Freedman (1-14 in 3 overs) who bolwed well. Captain Benjamin Lederman replaced Gale (0-27 in 4 overs) and slowed the run rate.

Zack Henry, Jonny Zealander and David Hirschovitz also bowled well. However it was the return of Moris and Lederman to bowl at the end of the innings that really limited the final score, as Leders had SC's opening bat caught briliantly by David Hirschovitz and then proceeded to bowl a succesion of excellent deliveries, ending with figures of 4 overs 1 maiden 12 runs and 2 wickets. At the other end Morris was proving even more miserly finishing with the superb figures of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 3 runs and 2 wickets.

SC having looked like scoring 130+, managed only a handful of runs in the last 5 overs, to leave LMV chasing 109 to win, but with only 8 batters this was always going to be a challenge.

Mark Spanjar and Leders continued their excellent work from their previous opening partnership and set off at a good pace, finding the boundaries regularly and running well (!!!!!)between the wickets. Mark was caught (again) at midwicket for 16, but Leders coninued on with David Hirshovitz (1x4)who was looking very comfortable until he managed to hit a full toss straight to mid wicket and was out for 10. Gideon Gale came and went quickly. Leders was then joined by Adam Morris, Leders was in full stride by now and hitting some tremendous shots, mainly straight down the ground. They took the score to 99 and looked to be coasting home when Leders skied a slower ball and was out for a well made 45 (the same score as he made for LMV on Sunday). With the pressure now on and SC sensing an unlikely victory, it was left to Morris to complete a fine personal performance by smashing 2 excellent boundaries and win the game for LMV.

A great result with only 9 men.

One league match to go but unfortunately we wil not be able to repeat last year's feat of winning the league, but we will be looking to finish on a high.
