London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club U15s v Totteridge Millhillians on Wed 29 Jun 2011 at 18:00
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won by 75 runs
Match report
LMV under 15's cruised to an emphatic win over Totteridge Millhillians, on a glorious sunny afternoon and evening at sunlit Rowley Lane.
With Andy Murray progressing at Wimbledon, 3.4 million people tuned their radios to establish whether LMV could join Murray in the quarter finals!!!
The two skippers tossed the coin and as expected Simeon lost the toss, but unexpectedly LMV were asked to bat.
The Little and Large opeing partnership of Akiva Fink and Noah Aziz, descended the flooded plain in front of the pavilion and marched to the wicket to wield the willow, istead of build boats with it.
A slow start from the lads as they saw what the opposition had to offer, including a very good leg spinner (of jewish/chinese origin), was met with a sudden flurry of boundaries as Noah opened his shoulders and Akiva launched anything short to the boundary. The boys put on 46 very good runs before Noah played back to a ball he should possibly have come forward to and was bowled by Tom Rose (another of jewish/chinese origin).
After Noah was out in the 9th over, Simeon rushed down the slope and joined Akiva. These two basically made the bowling look ordinary and ran superbly as they pushed singles into the gaps and hit the bad balls for 4. Simeon was eevntually out in the last over having put on 110 runs with Akiva in 10.3 overs, without either of them giving a chance. Simeon basically got out in the team cause as he was trying to fire the team to 170.
162 -2 from 20 overs is a very good score in any league. Chairman Terry Hyman handed out long term contracts to Simeon and Akiva to stop the boys being signed by Arsenal on a Bosman!!!
I have to compliment Totteridge for their spirit in the field as they fielded excellently, gave good support to the bowlers, despite the onslaught from FinkCohen and Co.
The boys took to the field with a victory in sight and Simeon allowed 8 boys to have a bowl, with David Shogger returning the quite outstanding figures of 4 overs 0 maidens 4 runs 1 wicket. He bowled beautifully, with swing and accuracy. Josh Frey supported David although he could not get a wicket. Joe Nyman was meanness personified as he bowled very clever slower balls which the TH boys could not get away. Chasing 162 to win, I did not expect the score to be 29 - 1 after 11 overs. This however was testimony to a fabulous bowling and fielding display from the lads.
The scoring rate only increased when Shoreman came in at 4 and scored 30 of the 36 runs whilst he was at the wicket. Why he did not open I am not sure.
Highlight of the fielding was an unbelievable stumping by Binny from Simeons arm ball, which led to a funny incident as Simeon had 2 in 2 after 6 balls but umpire Gaventa, thought he would play Aussie rules and allow extrat balls. Cat calls from the packed stands brought the umpire to realise over should be called thus denying Cohen the chance of a hat trick.
A win by 75 runs, a fabulous batting performance, good fielding, a wicket for Boaz, but still lessons to learn.
Thanks to the 3.4 million who stayed tuned to the end joining the 27,354 spectators packing the ground and thanks also to Howard Gaventa for umpiring and TC for getting distracted at every opportunity by all and sundry, so the scorecard is a mess!!!
Well done boys, lets see if we can get into the Nationals!!!
