London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club 2nd XI v Ickenham CC on Sun 10 Jul 2011 at 14:00
London Maccabi Vale Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets
Match report
LMVCC 2nd 194-6 (39.4 overs) beat Ickenham CC 193 all out (40 overs)
A fabulous victory in a match of fluctuating fortunes for both teams.
LMV won the toss and invited ICC to bat first on a wet Rowley Lane wicket. Early wickets for Jonathan Freedman and Joe Nyman had ICC at 34-2, but a 52 run partnership looked like developing into a very large partnership until Jonathan Lederman uprooted ICC's #3 middle stump. A further partnership of 52, looked to be taking ICC to a score well in excess of 220, but when Jeff Permutt had the ICC captain brilliantly caught by Jacob Freedman and Andrew Greenwall Cohen followed up with another quick wicket, the ICC innings faltered and in the end they were somewhat fortunate to reach 193. Avi Schwartz ended the innings with 3 quick wickets to record figures of 3-12, Joe Nyman also bowled well at the end to finish with figures of 2-39.
After a sumptuous tea, Mark Spanjar and Jeff "Facebook" Permutt, but Jeff was soon back in his civvies having been run out.The LMV innings staggered through the first 20 overs and had reached 79-3, with only Jacob Freedman showing the necessary aggression in an innings of 28 before he was also run out. The match seemed to be running away from LMV as the run rate reached 8 an over with 10 overs left. However Johnny Gould and Jon Daniels started hitting out as well as running exceptionally well in a stand of 71 in 14 overs. Johnny reached a superb 50 before he was run out for 59 trying an unlikely second run.
Andrew Greenwall Cohen joined JD and was soon into action with a lovely square drive for 4 off his first ball, followed up by some superb running, despite JD being almost out on his feet. 34 required off 4 overs, 24 off 3 and then 19 off 2. Excellent boundaries by AGC and JD meant that 8 were required off the last over. First ball goes for 2, second ball AGC flails one to the extra cover boundary and then 2 singles see us home with 2 balls left.
A really exciting, enjoyable and ultimately successful end to the afternoon.
We now need to be able to produce a few performances like this in the league, to get us up the table.
Well done to all and many thanks to TeeCee for scoring.
