Match report London Maccabi Vale can reflect positively on their first season in the top tier of the Chess Valley League. Despite a difficult end to the season, Vale's strong performances early in the campaign secured their future in Division 1 for another year - which was the club's main target a few months ago.

This season was always expected to be a challenge for Neil Lederman's side after five consecutive promotions, yet Vale have acquitted themselves well in all matches and finish the year in mid-table - a result that reflects the side's inconsistency.

Certain performances have been outstanding, yet the small squad has been hit heavily at times by unavailability - and faced with some top quality opposition, Vale suffered a string of losses late on.

There is plenty to build on, however, and with the squad set to be strengthened over the winter, the team will no doubt be keen to look ahead to next year and the challenges that await.
