Match report LMV 2nd XI 188 all out beat West Middx 168 all out by 20 runs

A below par performance in all aspects by LMV led to a close match, where the result was in doubt almost to the end.

LMV won the toss and decided to bat first on a poor looking surface.

LMV lost a wicket very early when Ben Lederman got one that bounced and he scooped it into the keepers hands. A stand of 52 between Nigel Rothband and Jonathan Cantor (27) followed by a stand of 36 between Nigel and Jonathan Lederman took the score to 95-2 at the halfway point. With 8 wickets in hand a score of 225+ looked on the cards.

Nigel having looked in no trouble at all ran himself out after reaching a 4th consecutive 50 and although Lederman (31) and Dan Caplan (31) scored quickly; From a position of 150-4 after 30 overs, only 38 runs were added in losing the last 6 wickets and being bowled out for 188 in the last over.

188 was still a stiff target on a wicket where it was difficult to trust the bounce. Simon Renshaw immediately proved difficult to play, picking up a wicket in each of his first three overs and at 5-3 the game already looked over. WM middle order, much more resolute than in our first match with them, had other ideas though, and a 4th wicket stand of 57 followed by a 6th wicket stand of 89 took them to 152-6, but with overs running out.

36 needed off the last 5 overs proved too much for West Middx as Renshaw came back to take another 2 wickets to finish with an excellent 5-39, and J Lederman took 2 well judged catches at long on (having dropped a dolly previously) to end the innings.

Certainly not our best day at the office, all disciplines are going to have to improve next Sunday if we want to win our cup semi-final!
