LMV travelled to Bessborough for their U17s knockout match with a young and thoroughly depleted squad due to tour/holidays/camp and the pull out of a player 40 minutes before the scheduled start time and were thoroughly beaten by a very hard hitting Bessborough side.

Bessborough won the toss, chose to bat, and were aggressive from the off. Their openers piled on 139 in 12.3 overs, attacking all of LMV's bowlers with gusto. The first wicket fell to a run out, with Harry Copley throwing to Binny Feinmesser who broke the stumps. The other opener progressed to an exceptional century, eventually being unbeaten on 116 from just 65 balls. The only LMV bowler to have any success was Josh Frey who bowled the number 3 for 21. Whilst LMV's bowlers were not at their best, nor was the fielding top notch, it is hard to fault the effort of the boys who came up against some very good cricketers.

After the early loss of Sam Ellard (caught at cover) Matt Parkins and Ben Lederman threatened to keep LMV in the game, with a partnership of 57 in just 5 overs. Parkins struck two mighty sixes over deep midwicket, and Lederman looked to hit hard and straight. They ran well between the wickets and were up with the rate required until Lederman was caught for 25. Parkins fell shortly afterwards, unlucky to be run out at the non-strikers end. Harry Copley struck a lovely straight six, but holed out, and the young LMV players to come struggled in the gathering gloom. The final score of 94/9 in just 11 overs reflects the fact that the boys really gave it a go in difficult circumstances.

It was a huge achievement to even get to this stage, so the lads can be proud - we just lost to the better team on the day.
