The 23rd May sees the 65th Anniversary of the club's first match, a formidable achievement. On that day the team was led by Cyril Hooker, who was to be captain for the next 20 years and subsequently became our President before sadly passing away in 2019.
Contrary to what many may think I was not playing that day, at least not for Vale. Some may have seen a picture of me holding a bat, which was nearly as big as me, in my garden at home. I'd like to think that the picture was taken on 23rd May 1956!
This 23rd May our 1st XI is at home to Hemel Hempstead for their second league match of the season and I invite all those not playing for our other team on that day to join us at Southgate and celebrate with us. The bar will be open for a celebratory drink.
The club is going from strength to strength with ambitious plans for the future and I hope that as many of you as possible can attend.
