UPDATE AND HAPPY 65TH!

17 May 2021

Dear all

Chag Sameach!

It's been another good couple of weeks for LMVCC with the 1sts winning their first Chess Valley League game vs Brondesbury at a canter by 8 wickets and with over 20 overs left - Dan Gusd hitting 89* to give him a current batting average of 255! Mazel tov also to the Grusd family on the birth of their baby boy.

Last Sunday also saw the first outing of our Development X1, with a perfectly balanced team of David (Mike Brearly) Marks, Jeremy (at a Barmy) Harris, Gideon (the Bees are going up) Gale and Jonathan (Freedie) Freedman trying to keep up with 7 under 18s. The team beat Belmont and Edgware by 84 runs with Jonathan Albert getting 97 (otherwise known as jug avoidance for not getting a 100, albeit he is too young to drink the context of that jug) and both Josh Solomons and Sam Wolfson picking up 3 wickets.

In between times, our Colts are also performing miracles when the weather allows, with both U11s and U13s winning against strong opposition. Great also to hear we are getting 30-40 kids for training every Sunday morning at Rowley Lane, plus strong turnouts at our Tues and Thursday evening net sessions (no net tomorrow evening due to the Chag).

Finally, you will hopefully have seen the News Item penned by our Honorary President Terry Hyman about the club's 65th anniversary this weekend. In case not, I have copied it below.

Best Wishes,

Alex Haffner

Club Chair

"The 23rd May sees the 65th Anniversary of the club's first match, a formidable achievement. On that day the team was led by Cyril Hooker, who was to be captain for the next 20 years and subsequently became our President before sadly passing away in 2019.

Contrary to what many may think I was not playing that day, at least not for Vale. Some may have seen a picture of me holding a bat, which was nearly as big as me, in my garden at home. I'd like to think that the picture was taken on 23rd May 1956!

This 23rd May our 1st XI is at home to Hemel Hempstead for their second league match of the season and I invite all those not playing for our other team on that day to join us at Southgate and celebrate with us. The bar will be open for a celebratory drink.

The club is going from strength to strength with ambitious plans for the future and I hope that as many of you as possible can attend.

Best wishes

Terry Hyman

Club President"
