A RECORD BREAKING WEEKEND FOR THE FIRST TEAM AND INDOOR JUNIOR NETS CONFIRMATION..

29 Aug 2023

Dear all,

Sunday saw a record breaking win for the 1st team in our final Chess Valley Division 1 game against Harrow CC.

Put into bat, an early wicket left us 8-1, but this brought together Dan Grusd and Chico Hillman in a devastating 2nd wicket stand of 270 (two-hundred and seventy, you read that right) which was confirmed on the spot by President Hyman as being a Vale all-time record stand! Your chairman being next in also obtained significant pad rash waiting for 40 overs for his turn... Further hitting enabled us to get to 325-5 off of our 45 overs.

In reply, Harrow started strongly but an excellent ball to dismiss the Harrow opener for a run a ball 30 from captain Steven Allweis in a devastating opening spell of 3-8 meant they were never seriously in contention. Pleasingly, both Avi Baker (16 years old) and Lior Heyman (14 years old) took 3 wickets between them and Harrow were bowled out for 204 to leave Vale 1sts victors by 121 runs.

Equally importantly, the win caps our best ever Chess Valley League season with the 1sts potentially runners up (subject to the last round of fixtures) in what is an extremely strong top division. With the 2nd having finished 4th in Division 3 (one spot off promotion), a trying year in terms of availability has ultimately ended on a (very) high note).

The next 2 weeks see the final set of friendlies with opportunities across the club to play a final game or two of cricket before the season ends.

Finally, I'm pleased to confirm that our Indoor Junior Nets are now booked in at a new venue - London Academy on Spur Road, Edgware. Nets will be on Mondays from 2 October onwards:
7-8pm - U11s
8-9pm  - U13s/U15s

More on the above shortly...

Best regards,

Alex Haffner
