MORE SUCCESS IN AMONGST THE RAIN...

12 May 2023

Dear all

LMVCC's successful start to the season has continued over the last 7 days despite the heavens literally looking to rain down on our parade...

First up last Sunday was the 1st X1 who took on the might of Brondesbury CC in our opening Chess Valley Division One match. Batting first, we were all out in the last of our 45 overs for 253 with Ben Lederman scoring 81 and Dan Grusd 73 off of only 59 balls.

In response, brilliant opening spells by Steven Allweis and Harry Brand took out one of the Brondesbury openers and, most importantly, their overseas pro and captain for a duck. This was followed up by Ben Lederman and Jonny Lubin and then (especially pleasingly) another one of our junior Elite Squad, 16 year old Judah Kandel who put the coaching received from Paul Weekes over the winter into immediate use by taking 3-27. With Brondesbury 108-8 it seemed to be game over, but their opener then went on the rampage putting on 115 with the number 10 before captain Allweiss calmed Vale nerves with the wicket of the number 10 and shortly after Brondesbury were all out for 227 leaving LMVCC winners by 26 runs - a great start to our league campaign.

I mentioned previously the huge challenge facing our U13 and U15 teams this season, both being in Division 1 of the Middx league for the first time in our history. I am therefore delighted to report on the U13s following up the U15s maiden Division One win last week with their own victory this week, beating Holtwhites U13 by 3 wickets with an over to spare. Special mention to Natan Corin who scored 37 not out including 18 off the 18th over of the innings. Those of us on the committee know all the hard work Russ Corin (and where called upon his better half, Helen) puts into the club and so it's particularly gratifying that their three sons (Natan, Aidan and Mica) are all performing so well for the Junior teams.

Unfortunately the U11s game this week was called off for rain but they will be back in action next Monday hoping to build on their 100% record so far.

Usual plea to all please to pay subs due and update availability for all teams on Pitchero - PLEASE!

Best regards,

Alex Haffner

Club Chairman
